VPS Hosting New Memory Limits

February 20th, 2010

We’re very pleased to announce the major new memory limits on all vps hosting plans this year, more than doubling the amount of memory being offered previously! We took a good hard look and discussed with some of our customers about what they really need, and more memory was the general consensus. Especially with the recent release of very memory intensive Windows Server 2008 operating system, small memory limits just aren’t functional any more. As a result our entry level starter plan now comes with 512 MB’s of guaranteed memory with major memory increases all the way through to our Enterprise plan. Comparing this to our competitors who have entry plans offering between 128 MB’s and 256 MB’s for a similar cost it’s clear that Entity Data is continuing to revolutionise VPS Hosting in Australia.

Managed Exchange Hosting

November 21st, 2009

Entity Data is pleased to announce the release of Hosted Exchange services from the 1’st of December 2009, after 11 months designing the solution. We would like to thank our customers who have been waiting patiently for the release of our Exchange Hosting and apologise for the release date getting extended.

Our Investment in Managed Exchange has been..well, huge. The environment consists of three large Poweredge 2950 servers, an EMC storage array (fibre attached), an LTO tape library, and as always, built for high-availability allowing us to offer our 99.999% availability guarantee to all Hosted Exchange customers.

Now onto the really exciting stuff. Our Managed Exchange solution is based on Microsoft Exchange 2007 Enterprise with all inherent Exchange functionality available for customers through the management control panel, i.e. user mailbox setup, public folders, distribution lists, etc.

Now onto Mobility, we’ve setup Blackberry Enterprise Server 5.0 on a dedicated server, allowing our customers to link their Blackberry’s to their Hosted Exchange organisation, this is as simple as clicking the “Activate Blackberry” button in the management control panel, and paying the bill of course ;-)

ActiveSync is available at no additional cost, which can be used for customers with Iphones and Windows Mobile phones. ActiveSync supports similar features to Blackberry, with shared calendars, full push email support, and HTML and rich-text email support.

If you have anymore questions, please open a sales ticket and we’ll be happy to answer.

VPS Hosting Promotion - 50% discount for a limited time

November 6th, 2009

With great pleasure we’re announcing a special 50% discount limited time promotion for new and existing customers acquiring new Virtual Servers. The conditions of the promotion allow for a 50% discount off our standard base Virtual Server plans for the first three months. The promotion only applies to the base VPS Hosting plans and does not apply to any add-ons or customised configurations. As usual there are no time frame contractual obligations and customers can request cancellation at any time.

The reason we are offering this promotion is simply due to having a large amount of available capacity after the recent purchase of new hardware nodes, and coming into the end of the year we’d like to put these available systems to good use. We are expecting allot of interest in this promotion and expect that we won’t be able to continue offering it for long. Fore more information please contact one of our sales consultants either by opening a ticket, live chat or calling us on the phone.

VPS Hosting

August 14th, 2009

We’re pleased to announce a number of recent upgrades and enhancements to our managed VPS Hosting infrastructure with the purchase of six new Poweredge 2950 Series III hardware nodes with Dual Xeon 5140 Quad Core CPU’s, 32 Gigabyte ECC DDR2 Memory and connected to our 4 Gbit/s SAN fabric with SAS disks and RAID10. The new hardware nodes have teamed Gigabit network connections to multiple Cisco 3750G access switches offering extremely high network capacity and redundancy for Virtual Server Hosting customers.

The new hardware nodes have been joined to our existing cluster of Linux and Windows Server 2003 x86_64 platforms and expand capacity for our Power, Power Plus, Premier, Premier Plus and Enterprise VPS Hosting plans. In addition we’ve also installed a new onsite backup server for the popular daily backup service allowing for an additional 15 Terabytes of compressed backups. The backup server uses SATA storage and RAID and has an EtherChannel network connection allowing backups and restores at 4Gbit/s.

Redundancy and high availability continue to be a major initiative in our VPS Hosting solutions with standby hardware nodes in each cluster group allowing automatic failover of VPS’s in the event of a hardware fault. Additionally in the event of SAN failure backups are kept on a completely isolated disk array ensuring that Virtual Servers can be restored in a disaster. Backups on our remote storage array are available to customers through the VPS Power Panel web interface allowing self performed restores.

Xen Returns!

April 1st, 2009

As many of our older customers know we were once entirely Xen committed and in 2008 we moved our focus away from Xen in favour of Virtuozzo. We don’t regret that decision and we’re running a very successful virtualisation service based on Virtuozzo. However there has been a very large number of customers who specifically look for a Xen VPS and cannot be persuaded to consider other technologies.

Due to our reluctance to hand all this business to our competitors and considering that we already maintain a large XenServer Enterprise cluster and have all the experience in-house we’ve decided to start once again accepting orders for Xen. We’ve just recently purchased six new DELL Poweredge 2950 Series III servers with 16 Gigabytes of RAM each and set them up with XenServer Enterprise.

Our developers have also started working on a proprietary control panel for managing the Xen VPS’s on the hardware nodes, our initial release of the control panel will allow simple functions such as rebooting the VPS with future releases intended to support full console access.

Network Upgrade

January 19th, 2009

As many of you know we’ve been planning an upgrade of the Brisbane network for some time now, well… it’s finally happened! During a single outage window on January 14′th we replaced many of our old access switches with new Gigabit Cisco WS-C3750G-24TS-S switches. In addition we also moved away from our historic collapsed-core architecture with the implementation of a distribution-layer WS-C3750G-24TS-E enhanced switch stack.

The new architecture increases performance to our VPS Hosting (VPS) and Dedicated Server farm with multi-gigabit connectivity into the network core and high levels of redundancy due to redundant fibre etherchannel links between access, distribution & core layers. The new architecture also allows us to keep inter-vlan traffic away from the core and allows this traffic to be routed at the distribution layer instead.

In addition we’ve also implemented Cisco proprietary EIGRP (Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol) within the network which will speed up network convergence and will make more intelligent routing decisions. We also expect this recent upgrade will correct an error that has been causing inaccuracies in the traffic usage statistics system.
