One of our Upstream carriers has advised that network maintenance will be performed on their network at the specified time due to the need to splice core fibre connections. This work will take several hours to complete however our network is multi-homed and will failover and reconverge with our secondary ISP’s. Customers should expect a few outages of 1 to 2 minutes each to allow time for BGP failover and convergence. For more information please visit our network status page.

We’ve recently made some big changes to our entry-level VPS Hosting plans - we’ve doubled the disk space allowance on most plans and increased the memory and data traffic quotas as well! These changes are the result of some internal restructuring and price re-negotiation with our suppliers. As always we are committed to providing customers with the most powerful, reliable and cost effective virtual servers in Australia. To see our range of entry-level VPS Hosting plans Click Here.
Please note: New quota allowances may not be available to older/existing customers depending on resource contention. Existing customers wishing to take advantage of new quotas may need to request a new virtual server.

We’re very pleased to announce our new entry level VMware Virtual Server plans. This new platform replaces Entity Data’s Virtuozzo Infrastructure that has been in operation for the past 4 years. The new VMware vSphere 4.1 platform is using brand new DELL hardware (Poweredge R710’s & Poweredge R610’s) supported by the latest Intel Xeon 6-Core CPU’s (Intel Xeon E5645’s). Each hardware node has 64GB’s of RAM and over 1 Terabyte of RAID-10 15K RPM SAS Storage. High availability has been considered with each node being fitted with redundant power supplies (fed independently from separate PDU’s/UPS’s) and four NIC’s (two NIC’s carrying management and backup traffic and two carrying virtual machine traffic) trunked across multiple switches for redundancy. Daily backups remain available and are being performed by Backup Exec 2010 R2 Virtual Infrastructure Edition onto LTO-4 TAPE. Our network infrastructure remains completely redundant taking advantage of four network upstream providers including PIPE peering.
With the release of our new plans and the large amount of new capacity that has been provisioned we’re offering a 30% off promotion for all new virtual server orders placed before June 30, 2011. This is a recurring discount valid for the first 6 months only. Coupon Code: PROMOJUNE11

There has been plenty of media coverage recently on the impending IPv4 address exhaustion, as usual the media would have us believe that at some point in the next 6 months the entire Internet will chain react setting off an explosion that will destroy all civilization. Fortunately it’s not quite that bad, and while the regional registries are running out of allocations most Internet Services Providers around the world have many thousands of addresses in reserve, the larger carriers potentially tens if not hundreds of thousands. Entity Data currently has around 2000 IPv4 addresses unallocated which allows potentially years of growth at current rate of consumption. All this being said, widespread IPv6 deployment must happen at some point, it’s just going to be at a later date than expected.
We have requested a large IPv6 allocation from APNIC and have started making preparations for supporting IPv6 within the network. This work entails talking with our current upstream peers to ensure we can advertise the IPv6 subnets and ensuring all our internal network infrastructure has updated software supporting IPv6. We expect to have the network completely IPv6 ready from the beginning of June 2011 and will start allocating both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses to new customers from this time.

We’ve had our senior developer hard at work and have revamped the company blog website. It has gone through some cosmetic changes and is now fully integrated into Facebook using the Facebook API. This means that customers now have two ways of keeping up with latest Entity Data news; either RSS feeds straight to a personal feed reader such as Outlook or simply through Facebook.

We continue to receive large numbers of support enquiries from our customers who are concerned about the flood situation in Brisbane. We would like to advise all of our customers that the data centres are safe from flooding and are council approved facilities. These data centres are also world-class and have multiple redundant industrial UPS and diesel power generators with fuel on-site to power the facilities for weeks if needed. We are not anticipating interruption to customer services and everything is NORMAL at present. We will however continue to monitor the situation closely.
